Decision to grant Beninese nationality and passports to Afro-descendants: he Eric Houndété challenges Talon
New
questioning of the government of the rupture by the parliamentary group The
Democrats. A new decision by leaders has raised many questions, the answers to
which are awaited by the national representation.
Since the advent of President Talon and his break from power in 2016, several actions have been taken and the consequences are mostly unfavorable to the Beninese people. The last decision which seems risky in the eyes of the honorable Eric Houndété is that relating to the systematic granting of nationality and the Beninese passport to Afro-descendants, an announcement made by the Beninese president himself. The deputy of the parliamentary opposition, member of the Democratic parliamentary group, wonders on what basis what Patrice Talon decided in front of his counterpart Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is based.
The deputy first
vice-president of the largest opposition party in Benin, Eric Houndété,
addressed 8 topical questions to the government. On the table of the President
of the National Assembly on May 28, 2024, the elected representative of the 5th
electoral district submitted this inquiry on such a high-level subject which
calls into question the sovereignty of his country. The parliamentarian invited
the executive to appear before the national representatives to explain to the
Beninese how the Head of State intends to determine Afro-descendants. These
topical questions are added to the long list of opposition questions waiting in
the government drawer.
